Description
Waterman 52 fountain pen, 1920s, in red and black Ripple hard rubber with gold filled trim. Good color with nice contrast between red and black. The correct woodgrain feed contrasts nicely with the gold nib. There's an owner's name in the barrel. The Waterman No. 2 nib is quite nice. With no pressure it's fine to medium, and when pressure is added it gets up to about 1.9mm -- quite extreme line variation. It takes a moderate amount of pressure to get the tines to spread, and it's possible to write with no shading. It's quite capable of pointed-pen calligraphy styles like copperplate or spencerian. See the writing samples.
Lever filler, restored with a new sac installed. Length about 5 3/8 inches.
The writing samples were made with the pen itself, dipped in Waterman Intense Black ink, on a Rhodia pad.
