Item Description:Stunning
Van Cleef & Arpels Ruby Styptor Minaudiere Case c1935-40. Machined texture with reeded central panel. Stylish Art Deco design features rows of square-cut rubies at its 18k Rose gold clasp. Compartments for cigarettes and dance cards, large beveled mirror. One compartment is enclosed by a fitted hinged and beveled glass lid with gold tipped handle. One compartment holds a matching compact that locks into place and is released by a clasp. The compact is also set with 12 baguette cut rubies on rose gold with a rectangular retractable lipstick case and lidded powder compartment and mirror. Marked "Van Cleef & Arpels" and "Styptor", the front releasing clasp marked "metal" with number 41580. The compact with all matching marks including VCA.
Styptor is an alloy of pewter and silver. It was used during the late 1930s and 1940s primarily in the manufacture of minaudières when precious metals were in scarce supply.

Condition:
Great condition, some small bruises to the cover, light oxidation, light scratches. Some oxidation to compact mirror.
