An suburb quality, extremely fine hand engraved, Islamic Egyptian, Solid silver small tray or the plate, with sloping scalloped rim, the middle section is engraved with Islamic eight-point star “Khatim Sulayman” formed by overlapping two squares, engraved on the center with Arabic writing, and enclosed by the band composed of eight elaborated cartouches containing calligraphic Arabic characters, interrupted by eight round medallions engraved with floral pattern.
By the middle-ages the eight-point star was widely used as a symbol in Islamic art. It is called khatim, or, " khatim sulayman," " seal of the prophets," as in signet ring. The phrase “seal of the prophets” is also used in the Koran and has ideological meaning for Muslims. The base is stamped with Egyptian silver hallmarks, a lotus flower, flanked by two Arabic characters.
