Mpooro Engorio Rendille Tribal Fashion | Early 20th Century African Wedding Coll

Description

This mpooro engorio has been oiled several times over its life,
which was the practice to upkeep them. The antique red glass Bohemian
beads are said to have been imported from Ethiopia and as pictured above,
are covered in years of oiling & African dust. The remnant of a pendant
can be seen on the bottom of the collar & the binding leather shows
honest age, wear & use. The necklace measures about 11" from top to bottom
and it does have the scent of worn leather.
This is not a modern, stamped out, reproduction. It was field collected
and dates to the early 20th century, once part of the Finley African art
collection.
