Description
Hand Made Cape Guild Hooked Rug from Japan. The piece is made by pulling loops of yarn or rag strips up through a loosely woven foundation cloth, usually burlap, using a tool like a crochet hook. The piece dates back to the period from circa 1940. The piece was made for Hayim and Co. Inc. in Japan. The piece was shaped as the Great Seal of The United States. It says "E Pluribus Unum" which means "Out of many, one." in Latin. This motto was adapted in the very first years of the United States to describe it's unity formed by multiple states. These rugs were custom made and this type was quite rare. The piece depicts the new fashion of rugs in the mid century which became also contemporary. The piece was made 70% of cotton, 20% of Rayon and 10% of various textile materials. The piece appears to be in good condition with visible signes of age and use. Entirely hand made.
