Description
When this Edison Italian Umbrian IU-19 half cabinet console came out in 1919 it was, along with the C-450 18th Century Adam console, the top-of -the-line Edison phonograph at 0. Because of the very high price for that time, examples of the IU-19 are exceedingly rare. The IU-19 is the only Edison phonograph done in an Italian furniture style, as most Edison cabinets were done in old English and French styles. The dimensions of this cabinet are height 40" X width 44" X depth 22". Weight is approximately 150 lbs. It has the largest 250 size horn and a double spring motor. It has dual grilles of rococo design with original grille cloth. It has a flap lid with the turntable on the right and a cupboard on the left with space for 36 Edison diamond discs. This console is very sturdy with beefy stretchers providing strong support.
