    Description

This is an interesting metal pin in the shape of a Pekingese dog. It measures 1 1/2 inches long by just over 1 inch tall. It is in very good condition apart from a few small flecks of paint loss here and there. This is a “Dalecraft” pin; it is attached to a printed card. From the style of the cards, and things written on them, I deduce that “Dalecraft” was a smallish business based in Pennsylvania, and was active around the 1940's. I also notice a very strong resemblance to a series of small dog woodcarvings from around this same time period; I believe the molds for these metal pins were taken from those little carved dogs; they are the same size, too. I've also seen a postcard advertising a company called “Dalecraft” in West Lawn, Pa. that sold what look like metal dog plaques around this same time. I suspect these pins are from the same company. I'd guess they are from the late 1940's or the 1950's, or maybe as late as the 1960's. The pin is not very heavy; it might be cast aluminum or a “pot metal”; a magnet does not stick to it. These pins were not made in quantity and are not common. Thanks for looking, and if you have any questions, just ask!
