Description
This is a listing for a necklace made with antique trade beads. It's an authentic piece from Nagaland in NE India, made and worn by Naga men and women for use in their ceremonies. They have collected and created such necklaces for as long as beads have been available to them as trade. Beads like this listing are worn for status and adornment and are considered treasured heirlooms among the Naga people. It was purchased by me from a couple (whose wife is Naga). They collected it in the 70's in Nagaland, itself. The beads are in excellent condition and display the desired character of antique trade beads. The beads are hand fommed from orange and red glass tile, and look very much like coral. They originated in China, approximately 100 years ago, where they were eventually acquired through trade into Europe and finally to northern India and Burma.
The necklace consists of 5 strands of large beads. It's strung with natural fiber cord and is woven together at the neck in a traditional macrame finish. The hanging length is just shy of 14 inches so has an approximate wearing length of 28 inches. The strands are varying lengths but all measure within an inch of each other for a beautiful display of antique trade beads. Colors are bright carrot orange, deep orange coral, mustard yellow and red. Just a profuse collection of beautiful rich oranges, yellows and reds, perfectly blended by the bead artist. They average .25 inches, some a little larger and some slightly smaller in length and width. All are perfectly matched for color, size and shape. It weighs 214 grams, so not for anyone who can't wear a fairly heavy necklace.
This is a true statement piece as also qualifies as a museum piece....something to be worn, admired and enjoyed for generations. It will arrive by Priority mail insured. Thank you for looking.
