There is some age wear, pitting and small chips in the ends of some of the beads; all have a nice patina. They are in overall good condition considering their age and travels, and will make a great addition to any collection. The photos show the actual beads you will receive. No additional accessories (or the U.S. quarter) are included.
Description:
This mixed lot of 73 Venetian Millefiori African Trade Beads is from the late 19th - early 20th century. They are strung on raffia and cotton cords (which are not antique and they will have to be restrung). The beads are brightly multi-colored in various mosaic & geometric "eye" patterns in Rasta colors; red, green, yellow on one strand, and white, yellow, blue & black solid glass on the other strand. They are approximately 9-10.5mm in diameter, although because of the handmade process the size of each one varies slightly.
Doug Deal Factoid - Dutch traders were the first Europeans to bring Venetian millefiori beads to West Africa in the late 1400's. The beads were held in high regard by several tribes and were often used as a form of currency. Millefiori beads of this era are still sought after by collectors worldwide.
